This large old family farmhouse, currently set up as a main home, with five charming independent B and B rooms, is in an exceptional historical area of the Cévennes. It is a "tiny hamlet with aspirations of a country castle", a magical place full of history set in the Cevennes National Park. Once upon a time it was a hive of industry for breeding silk worms and producing silk (17th-19th centuries), and growing Chestnut trees. Nowadays it is a real haven of tranquillity. This "farmhouse", which is comprised of several houses joined together around two interior courtyards, is set in 110 acres of nature, in an unspoilt valley, and on an old "transhumance" track (the seasonal movement of shepherds with their sheep between summer and winter pastures), still occasionally used. A river crosses this magnificent property, and the farmhouse is situated on a large flat plateau (5 or 6 acres), unusual for a Cévennes property. Just 8 miles from the large town of Alès, 42 miles from Nimes (with TGV train) and near the tourist centres of Anduze and the Bambouseraie, there is a good communication network. There is a school 'bus pick up, and a few minutes away by car are the two villages of St Paul La Coste and Cendras, where there are shops and restaurants. With 14 bedrooms, and 10 bathrooms (including the 5 B and Bs with en suite facilities), it is ideal as either a large family home, or to carry on the business of B and Bs and gites, or cultural workshops.
